The storyline follows the Karate Kid fighting his way against Johnny Lawrence’s return. Fans of movies would appreciate how fast-forwarded everything goes from one fight to another without much in the way of cutscenes. It’s all action-filled, full of Easter eggs and iconic locations.

Gameplay: Classic Beat-‘Em-Up Action

In terms of gameplay, this is a fight through 12 stages, taking down opponents in that classic style. Controls are really smooth, and performing combos and special moves is effortless.Of course, you can mash buttons, but once you master your moves, the experience can be even more rewarding.

There is still so much content once you complete the main storyline. Fun modes include: mini-games, Boss Rush, Endless Mode, and Arcade Mode add to the fun. Besides, with 4-player multiplayer, team up with friends for an intense battle.

Boss Battles

And the boss battles? Iconic, full of many of our favorite villains, like Johnny Lawrence. Each fight is unique, requires a different strategy, and it feels absolutely satisfying when defeated. Pixelated graphics are a perfect nostalgic treat to bring in some really amazing 80s aesthetic vibe, while the synth-heavy soundtrack keeps this energy very well throughout.

Sometimes, the controls are a bit off, especially when it comes to the breaking of items in the intensive moments. While fun, the combat needs that tad more depth.

Final Verdict

All in all, The Karate Kid: Street Rumble is a nostalgically entertaining romp that captures the spirit of those iconic beat-’em-ups. Great gameplay, great soundtrack, and a story that lovingly nods its head to the original series is well worth your notice if retro gaming is up your alley. It has a few control quirks and lacks a real depth in the combat system, but that aside, it’s still a solid representation of its genre.
